While everyone was at home enjoying the summer break we lost a fellow Jacksonian due to a car accident. Gary “Blow” Richardson was a member of the Gentleman’s Academy and the JSU class of 2017. Members of the Gentleman’s Academy wanted to express their sympathy for Gary in a video. Check it out here!! When the 2014-2015 Senior Class President Kam Robinson, a Pre- Med major from St Louis, Missouri was asked what are his plans on ensuring the senior class has a productive year he stated, "As senior class president, I plan on providing opporunities for the Class of 2015 that will prepare them for the next phase of their lives. Proffessionalism forums and workshops, info on standardezed testing, access to study materials are what we are trying to provide for the students because those are the main needs for seniors. Now I wouldnt be who I am if I didnt incorporate some fun. Gone are the typical mixers and boring events. We have innovative and interactive events and socials planned for our class. I believe through hard work and consistency, the council and myself can win back the support of the class. Extreme cosists of reaching a high or the highest degree and be VERY great. Therefore, its my job along with the council to make sure we meet and surpass expectations. STAY TUNED!" Strong words from a strong leader. The men of Gentleman’s Academy would like to wish the upcoming senior class (JSU ’15) good luck on preparing for their last undergraduate collegiate year. Remember be productive, network, and have fun. The World Cup has been the topic lately, but on July 13, 2014 Germany took on Argentina. The game started at 3pm ET and Argentina took a tough loss in Rio. The final score was 1-Nil. Many fans were heartbroken at the result of the game that ended Argentina’s run at the World Cup. Germany was, however arguably, the best team in the competition. Let’s take a second to be reminded of all the records they broke this year: — The largest winning margin in a World Cup semifinal. The previous best were Argentina's 6-1 victory over the USA and Uruguay's 6-1 triumph versus Yugoslavia in 1930 and West Germany's 6-1 win against Austria in 1954. — Brazil equaled its largest margin of defeat. Its heaviest loss had been 6-0 to Uruguay in the 1920 Copa America. — Brazil conceded 11 goals at World Cup 2014, equaling the number it allowed in 1938. — Brazil's first home defeat in a competitive match since 1975, when it lost 3-1 to Peru in the Copa America semifinals. The Brazilians had gone 63 matches without a defeat. — The first time Brazil had ever conceded seven goals in a World Cup match. It has only conceded more once in any fixture, an 8-4 loss to Yugoslavia in a friendly in 1934. — Miroslav Klose became the leading scorer in World Cup history. His goal was his 16th, one more than former Brazil striker Ronaldo — Klose also became the first man to play in four World Cup semifinals. — Klose has been on the winning side 16 times at the World Cup, equaling the record set by former Brazil fullback Cafu. — Thomas Muller's goal was Germany's 2,000th in all matches played. Fritz Becker got its first in 1908. Congratulations Germany and as for Messi and Argentina, well Kleenex ought to be a very excited brand lol. We have about a month left of the summer and we all know that everyone is excited to get back to campus to start the fall semester. The now sophmore class (JSU17), ended the year by posting a video entitled "Clarity". It was the talk of social media proving that men of Jackson State are doing positive things. JSU17 is without a doubt bringing back the popular "cypher" that has always been around HBCUs back to JSU. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dYaU71JFv3Q |
